What does Heaven's to Betsy really mean? I have heard the phrase all of my life, being a "Betsy" and all....
The meaning is simple enough: it’s just a mild exclamation of shock or surprise. From my research it is almost exclusively an American expression. Some have thought that it had something to do with the fronteirsman's rifle, often called "Old Betsy." I would like to think my ancestor Daniel Boone called his rifle "Betsy."
